Leadership Certification · Built From Elite Military Practice

Every Organization Drifts. Train Your Leaders to Catch It Early and Correct It Fast.

Organizations rarely lose momentum overnight. They lose it one overlooked conversation, one lowered standard, one unresolved issue at a time. By the time performance suffers, drift has already taken hold.

The Standdown Certification equips your leaders with a practical, repeatable process for recognizing organizational drift, restoring alignment, and returning teams to execution before small problems become costly ones.

Built on the proven military practice of a Stand-Down, this certification gives your organization an internal capability your leaders can use again and again whenever drift begins to appear.

The Problem

Drift Doesn't Announce Itself.

Every organization experiences drift. Not because people stop caring. Because pressure builds.

  • Communication becomes inconsistent.
  • Priorities compete.
  • New leaders join the organization.
  • Processes evolve.
  • Small compromises become accepted.

Standards that once felt non-negotiable slowly become optional. Drift doesn't happen all at once. It happens gradually, making it difficult to recognize until the effects begin showing up throughout the organization.

By then, leaders are dealing with the symptoms. Increased turnover. Recurring mistakes. Frustrated high performers. Inconsistent accountability. Departments operating differently. More meetings with fewer outcomes.

The challenge isn't preventing every instance of drift. The challenge is recognizing it early enough to correct it before it becomes expensive.

The Blind Spot

Why Most Leaders Miss Drift

Most leadership development teaches leaders how to communicate more effectively, coach their teams, manage conflict, and inspire performance. Those are important skills.

But very few leaders are taught how to recognize the subtle signs that an organization has begun drifting away from its standards. Instead, leaders spend months addressing symptoms.

  • A communication issue.
  • A performance concern.
  • A quality problem.
  • Missed deadlines.
  • Low engagement.
  • Customer complaints.

Each problem gets solved individually, while the underlying drift continues to spread. The Standdown Certification teaches leaders to recognize the source before it becomes a larger problem. Because correcting drift early is always easier than rebuilding after the damage has already been done.

Drift isn't the crisis. Failing to recognize it is.
The Origin

What Is The Standdown Certification?

In elite military operations, a Stand-Down isn't retreat. It's a deliberate operational pause. A moment called by leadership to restore focus, reinforce standards, identify breakdowns, and prepare the team to execute with clarity.

Elite teams understand something every successful organization eventually learns. Small problems become major problems when no one pauses long enough to address them.

The Standdown Certification brings that same principle into today's organizations. Over the course of nine structured 90-minute sessions, leaders learn a practical framework for recognizing organizational drift, addressing it with confidence, and leading their teams through meaningful, lasting resets.

This isn't about replacing your leadership philosophy or changing how your organization operates. It's about giving your leaders a structured process they can use whenever drift begins to appear. Because every organization experiences moments that require leaders to pause, realign, and move forward together.

The System

Discover the Framework

The Standdown Certification isn't built around leadership theory. It's built around a practical framework your leaders can apply the moment they recognize drift inside their team. Each part works together to help leaders identify problems early, address them with confidence, and build lasting accountability without creating blame.

The Four Stages of Drift

Drift is rarely sudden. It follows a predictable pattern. Leaders learn how to recognize the earliest signs of drift, understand how it progresses, and intervene before it begins affecting performance, communication, and culture.

The earlier drift is recognized, the easier it is to correct.

The Nine-Step Framework

Every successful Standdown follows the same structured process. The nine steps provide leaders with a clear roadmap for identifying the issue, bringing the right people together, restoring alignment, assigning ownership, and ensuring improvements become part of how the organization operates moving forward.

Rather than wondering what to do next, leaders have a proven framework to follow.

The Drift Diagnostic

Every participant begins by completing the Drift Diagnostic. This assessment helps leaders evaluate where drift may already exist within their team or organization before the certification even begins. It creates awareness, encourages honest conversations, and establishes a baseline that participants use throughout the program.

You can't correct what you haven't learned to recognize.

Anchor Points

Every organization has values. Anchor Points turn those values into visible standards. Participants learn how to define, communicate, and reinforce the behaviors that guide decisions, strengthen accountability, and keep teams aligned long after the Standdown has ended.

You can't reset to a standard you haven't defined.

The Process

A Simple Process. A Lasting Impact.

The Standdown Certification is intentionally designed to fit into the rhythm of a busy organization while giving participants enough time to apply what they're learning between sessions.

The program begins with a live orientation followed by nine facilitated certification sessions. Each week builds on the last, allowing participants to immediately apply the framework within their own teams before returning for the next session.

Learning becomes implementation. Implementation becomes habit. Habit becomes culture.

Orientation

A 60-minute kickoff introducing participants to organizational drift, the certification process, and what to expect throughout the program.

Nine Weekly Sessions

Each 90-minute session follows a consistent format that keeps participants engaged while helping them immediately apply what they've learned. Every session includes:

  • Review of previous week's implementation
  • Video instruction from Jay Richards
  • Framework instruction
  • Team discussion
  • Hands-on workbook activities
  • Leadership commitments for the coming week

Participants also complete one chapter of reading each week from The Standdown Framework, typically requiring 20 to 30 minutes.

Graduation

Participants complete the program with a practical understanding of how to recognize organizational drift, facilitate meaningful Standdowns, and lead structured resets within their teams. Each graduate receives:

  • Certified Professional recognition
  • Official Standdown Framework Workbook
  • Practical tools to lead future Standdowns with confidence
The Outcomes

More Than a Certificate.

Your leaders leave with a repeatable process they can use for the rest of their careers. By the end of the certification, every participant has developed a practical action plan based on the real challenges facing their team or organization. Rather than leaving inspired but unsure where to begin, they leave equipped to lead meaningful organizational resets with confidence.

Every participant finishes with:

Their Drift Diagnostic Results

A clear understanding of where drift currently exists and where leadership attention is needed most.

A Signal Audit

An evaluation of the warning signs already appearing across their team or department.

An Anchor Point Assessment

A practical review comparing stated organizational values with everyday behaviors and decisions.

A Standdown Reset Plan

A structured action plan with defined priorities, ownership, timelines, and measurable outcomes.

A Sustainability Strategy

A practical plan for preventing drift from quietly returning after the reset has been completed.

The Return

The Certification Ends. The Capability Stays.

When your first cohort graduates, your organization gains something far more valuable than certified leaders. You gain an internal capability.

Instead of relying on outside consultants every time standards begin to slip, your organization has trained facilitators, proven materials, and a repeatable process that can be used whenever drift begins to appear.

That means future leaders can be developed internally. New cohorts can be certified as your organization grows. And your leadership team shares a common language for recognizing drift, restoring alignment, and reinforcing standards.

The certification may last nine weeks. The capability remains with your organization for years.

Tracie O’Reilly
Vice President of Visual Merchandising, Ashley Furniture HomeStore Corporate

I’ve managed operations for the past 12 years and currently oversee 550+ team members across more than 130 factories in nine countries. During one of our CEO’s visits to Vietnam, we kept finding what looked like isolated problems across three different vendors. Jay told me, “If you continue going factory by factory like this, you’re going to keep seeing what you’ve already seen. To stop the drift and change the story, it starts with a Standdown with your team.”

In 20 hours, we conceptualized, planned, and coordinated a company-wide reset for 150 people pulled from multiple factories across several provinces. The immediate impact was containment. We stopped the color issues from shipping and resolved the drawer problems. The deeper change was cultural. A Standdown isn’t cookie-cutter. It’s about bringing people together to realign on expectations and re-establish disciplines that may have slipped.
